R.M. Smith - The History of Greenock

The History Of Greenock by Ronald Murray Smith (1880-1937) is the most comprehensive and accurate guide to the history of the town. It covers the history of the town from foundation until the 1920s and provides a rich source of information in a single volume.

When originally published R.M. Smith included a statement of his purpose and his sources:

'While the Author is indebted to Weir, Williamson, and others, for much valuable detail, the bulk of this volume is comprised of information gathered from Town Records and newspaper files. There is no claim of completeness, or of freedom from error; the only claim is that herein to some extent is met a deficiency in the matter of Local History that has too long existed.'
