Football Development

In partnership with the Scottish FA, the Council currently provides football opportunities for all in the community. Scotland has recently been awarded the Grassroots charter from UEFA, one of only five countries to achieve this award, for the work being undertaking by the Scottish FA and our local communities.

The following information shows the areas we are currently working in. Further detail on any of the programmes can be obtained from the football development officer (please see under Contacts on this page)

Bank of Scotland Midnight Leagues
Friday 7-9pm 12-16yrs Lady Octavia, Greenock
Friday 6-7.30pm P4-P7 Port Glasgow High School
Friday 7.30-9pm S1-S6  Port Glasgow High School
Friday 8-9pm S1-S6 (girls only) Greenock Sports Centre

SFA Football Development Programmes

What are they?

Curriculum

McDonalds

  • 15-20 week ‘Coaching & Games' programme delivered to P7 pupils
  • Inverclyde coaches delivering the programme
  • Games: Boys/Girls programme – to help create new P7 teams playing football

Food Standards Agency

  • 6 week coaching programme delivered to P4/P5
  • Delivery of FSA mission books – to increase pupil awareness, regarding 6 key areas that are related to food hygiene and healthy eating

Community

Bank of Scotland 1

  • Funded through Cashback for Communities
  • A ‘Training & Matches’ programme for S1 pupils
  • Delivered to all Inverclyde Schools by local coaches
  • Games programme for Boys/Girls

Midnight League

  • Funded through Cashback for Communities
  • To deliver diversionary programmes on Friday nights, engaging with young people
  • Links to clubs within the community
