If a child is still-born after 24 weeks of pregnancy, the still-birth requires to be registered. The registration must be done within 21 days. The hospital will issue a Form 6 which is the authorisation for the Registration.
After the Registration you will be issued with a Form 8. This is the authorisation for the Funeral Director to proceed with your chosen arrangements. You may also have a certificate of the registration if you wish - this is free of charge.
Persons who may register a still-birth are the same as those for a birth. Please see the advice on Birth Registration if you need clarification on this. Unfortunately, if the birth parents are not married, the father cannot register a still-birth without the mother also being in attendance.
For further information, please contact the Registration Service (refer to Contacts section of the page).
