Who can vote in an election?
In order to vote at elections you must:
- be on the Register of Electors
- be aged 18 or over on polling day
- be a British or commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland who is resident in the UK
You can check whether you are on the Register of Electors at your local library or by contacting the Local Electoral Registration Office on the details shown on this page.
If you are not registered to vote, you can obtain a voter application form from the Local Electoral Registration Office and retutn it to them. Their details are shown on this page. You can also register online at the Register to Vote link shown on this page.
