2017 UK Parliamentary Elections

Elections to the United Kingdom Parliament will take place on Thursday the 8th of June 2017.

Voting in the election will take place between 7am and 10pm for all registered voters who are aged 18 or over on the day of the poll. Published notices for the election are available at the documents section of this page.

Register to Vote

If you want to vote on the 8th of June, you must be registered to do so. You can check that your name is on the electoral register by calling the local Electoral Registration Office using the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

You can also register to vote or update your name, address or other details on the electoral register by visiting the online voter registration page of the UK Government website, shown at the links section of this page.

Applications to register to vote in the UK Parliamentary Elections must reach the local Electoral Registration Office by Monday 22 May 2017, no later than midnight.

Poll Cards for the election will be sent out following publication of the Notice of Election.   The poll card will confirm whether you have to vote in person, or whether you have a postal vote, a proxy vote, or a postal proxy vote. The poll card will also confirm your local polling place if you are voting in person. 

Please check the details on the poll card carefully as your polling place may be different from your polling place in the recent Local Government election.

Postal & Postal Proxy Voting

Applications for a postal vote or a postal proxy vote should be made to the local Electoral Registration Office on the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

The last date to apply for a postal vot or a postal proxy vote, or to amend an existing postal vote or postal proxy vote, is 5pm on Tuesday the 23 May 2017.

Proxy Voting

You can also apply for a proxy vote so that someone else can vote on your behalf. Applications for a proxy vote should be made to the local Electoral Registration Office using the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

The last date to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017.

The last date to apply to vote by emergency proxy because of medical emergency or for work/service reasons is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017Such applications will only be acceptable if:

  • in the case of an application on grounds of medical emergency, the emergency must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017; or
  • in the case of an application on grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware after 5pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017 that they would be unable to go to the polling place.

The period for nominations for those who wish to stand for election as the Member of Parliamnet for the Inverclyde County Constituency in this election closed at 4pm on Thursday 11 May 2017. The Notice of Persons Nominated and Poll is available from the link on the documents section of this page.
