Upgrade for Greenock Shops
Work is underway to improve a row of shops owned by Inverclyde Council in Greenock.
The renovation of the six units on Broomhill Way is part of the wider regeneration of the area being undertaken by Inverclyde Council, Riverside Inverclyde and Registered Social Landlord River Clyde Homes.
Work has started to repair and replace fire exit doors, damaged areas of rough cast, timber fascia’s and walkways behind the units while the shop fronts are due to be replaced in the next few weeks in a project worth at least £45,000.
Environment & Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: “Local shops are at the heart of our communities. It is so important for people to be able to pop out to their local stores rather than traipse all the way into the town centre or a retail park. Given the significant investment that is being made in the wider Broomhill area the Council thought it absolutely necessary to invest in some of the local retail infrastructure to mirror the improvements elsewhere.”
Urban regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde is currently delivering on a £3.11 million project to regenerate Broomhill on behalf of Inverclyde Council.
It includes proposals to re-align the Baker’s Brae Road and to develop a new light industrial area. A planning application has been made and various land acquisitions are being pursued. It is hoped main works on the site will be underway by the autumn of this year.
