Core paths network
As a duty of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, all local authorities were charged with identifying a network of routes in their area which provides sufficient levels of access for their communities. This network is known as a Core Paths Network, and is presented in a Core Paths Plan. Inverclyde Council was one of the first in Scotland to formally approve their Core Paths Plan.
The Core Paths Plan and the paths network in Inverclyde are to encourage people to get out and about, be more physically active, improve their health and rely less on the car. It is about everyday trips to work, school, shops and services, as well as enjoying the outdoors for recreation. The Plan provides a framework of routes which is sufficient, as a whole, to give people reasonable access throughout Inverclyde.

Consultation on Proposed Amendment to the Inverclyde Core Paths Plan
Inverclyde Council are, under section 20C of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 (“the Act”), proposing to make a single amendment to the Inverclyde Core Paths Plan, drawn up under section 17(1) of the Act in respect of the Local Authority area (“Plan”).
The proposed amendment is for the permanent diversion of a short section of Core Path 1E ‘Gourock to Greenock’, which runs along the Greenock waterfront between the leisure centre (NS28097652) and the cinema (NS28007660). The section of Core Path 1E to be removed and the permanent diversion (i.e. new route) are shown on a map, which is available to download from this page and can also be viewed in the Customer Service Centre, Municipal Buildings, Clyde Square, Greenock, PA14 1LY.
The amendment to Core Path 1E is due to the future redevelopment of the cinema and waterfront car park site, as approved under planning permission 18/0258/IC
The proposed amendment is hereby published on 27 June 2019 for a 1 month consultation period, which runs until 5pm on 27 July.
