Claire Munn
Schools Sport Competition Coordinator
Hi my name is Claire Munn and was appointed to the post of School Sport Competition Coordinator in June 2014. I previously worked as an Active Schools Coordinator in Argyll and Bute. The role of my job is to increase competitive sporting opportunities for local secondary pupils.
School Sport Competition is a pilot programme, initially in 8 local authorities, to increase competitive sport opportunities for secondary pupils. Local Authorities were invited to state their business case, detailing why they should be selected in this pilot. Inverclyde were successful and a School Sport Competition Coordinator was appointed to the post in June 2014. The post is funded solely by Sportscotland initially for 2 years but is supported through Inverclyde Council.
There are 7 key sports which will feature in year 1 of the project, netball, girls’ football, basketball, extreme golf, football and athletics. These sports were selected because of the strong partnerships which have been formed with the associated community clubs. Sports will be competed over the school year culminating in a presentation of all sports and announcement of the overall School Sport Competition winning school.
