Anyone who is experiencing difficulties with breastfeeding or feeding their baby should make contact with their midwife, Health Visitor or Family Nurse.

Breastfeeding support

Inverclyde Infant feeding team can offer support antenatally and postnatally and can visit you at home to provide one to one education/support. They can be contacted on 07773 086 609 where you can leave a message and one of the team will call you back.

 

Antenatal Breastfeeding workshop

Meet on the first Tuesday of the month at The Waterwheel, Port Glasgow PA14 5DX at 11:00 a.m. -12 noon. Education and support on the practicalities of breastfeeding.

 

Breastfeeding group

Breastfeeding mum’s drop-in meet every Tuesday at The Waterwheel, Port Glasgow PA14 5DX at 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. throughout the year. The group offers a welcoming environment where breastfeeding mums can support each other. The group is facilitated by an Infant feeding advisor who will be on hand should you need any professional advice. Call 07773 086 609.

 

Inverclyde’s Facebook Page

The Breastfeeding Friendly Inverclyde Facebook page has been set up by the Infant Feeding Team. The purpose of the page is to share accurate, relevant and current information relating to breastfeeding, parenting and building close and loving relationships

 

Other support available

The Breastfeeding Network offer a range of support groups which are open to any mum in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The National Breastfeeding Helpline – Helpline offers both telephone and web chat services Tel 0300 100 0212 open 24 hours per day.

It also offers support in British Sign Language. Users in Scotland can contact the helpline via contact SCOTLAND-BSL.

Unicef have a range of useful resources for parents on infant feeding and relationship building, as well as information on overcoming common breastfeeding challenges. Printable resources in other languages are available.


First Steps Nutrition Trust is an independent public health nutrition charity that provides information and resources to support eating well from pre-conception to five years.

Best Start Foods Benefit: Pregnant women and families who have children aged up to three years old on low income might be entitled to Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods – mygov.scot benefits. There are also a range of other benefits families may be able to access Children and family – mygov.scot.
