Plough Snow While the Sun is Shining

While much of Scotland has been sweltering in tropical temperatures Inverclyde Council has already been looking ahead to winter.

A new £500,000 fleet of snow ploughs will be on hand to keep the area’s roads clear as the Council continues to invest in its environmental services facilities.

Environment & Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: “Winter may seem a long way off but it will be here soon enough and you cannot make too many plans.

“It wasn’t that long ago the ‘Beast from the East’ brought much of the country to a standstill and we had a real battle on our hands to deal with the disruption.

“These new vehicles combined with the extra investment we continue to make in our staff and resources and detailed planning will leave us better prepared than ever before.”

Inverclyde Council has invested around £10million on its new Pottery Street depot.

It incorporates a new recycling centre, a salt barn and delivers all of the Council’s vehicle fleet maintenance in a new state-of-the-art garage which complies with VOSA standards.

Roads professional and technical employees are all housed under the one roof. The Council’s refuse collection, fleet maintenance staff and transport services also operate out of the new Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF).

The three 18-tonne and two 12-tonne vehicles replace the existing fleet which is around seven years old.
