Summer fun clubs for all the family
Families are set to benefit from an Inverclyde Council project offering family play and fun with a light lunch over the school summer holidays.
In July and August Inverclyde ‘attainment challenge’ will be running nine clubs in Port Glasgow and Greenock.
Families will be able to enjoy a range of activities including reading, arts and crafts and outdoor games.
Inverclyde Council’s education and communities convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: “This can be an extremely stressful and expensive time for families trying to keep children entertained for the summer.
“The holiday family fun clubs will give parents and children the chance to play, relax, have fun and make new friends in a variety of activities at a range of locations throughout the coming weeks
“The clubs are geared towards the whole family – they are not playschemes for children to be dropped off for the day – where they can spend quality time together and also enjoy a light lunch.”
Families will have access to the school family support workers, arts, craft, Bookbug sessions and family cooking. Children will also be encouraged to take part in the Inverclyde libraries Summer reading challenge.
The clubs – in schools and community centres across Inverclyde - will be available from Monday 2 July 2018 until the middle of August.
Families are welcome to attend any of the hubs at dates and times that suit their needs.
In addition and for the first time the Scottish Attainment Challenge is also providing lunch for the Stay and Play project that is offered from Play4All in Craigmarloch Additional Support Needs School. Families wishing to attend at Craigmarloch need to register by calling 01475 715718.
Communities Vice Convener Councillor Natasha Murphy said: “We know from research that children’s attainment and achievement is improved if parents know what they are learning and are able to support their children’s education at home.
“These sessions offer a great opportunity for them to learn from the professionals and have quality, fun time with their children over the holidays
“Last year the summer lunch clubs were extremely popular and I am sure they will be even more so this year.”
