The number of students gaining five A Higher grades rose to its highest ever level, with 30 students achieving this success.

The number of S4 pupils achieving five or more National 5 passes was at 34.1%, slightly down on the results achieved last year at 35.5%.  The percentage of pupils gaining five or more National 4 and 5 or more National 3 awards was 75.8% and 81.6%.

Inverclyde Council’s Education and Communities Convener, Councillor Jim Clocherty, said: “Today marks an important milestone in the lives of our young people and there will also be a collective sigh of relief for many as the waiting is finally over.

“These results are reward for a lot of hard work by pupils, their parents and carers and council staff in our schools over several years.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank every member of staff who play such a key role in the education of our young people. It is through their dedication that we are able to achieve these kind of results and to give our young people the opportunity to go on and lead rewarding and successful lives.

“Through long term investment in our fabulous schools and the professionalism and commitment of staff we are determined to give every single child and young person the best possible start we can. That hard work is at its best when we are working hand in hand with parents and carers to make sure that every young person whatever school they go to is supported to achieve their very best.

“While for some young people today may provide disappointments, every effort will be made to support them to achieve the qualifications they are looking for

“We have a long and successful track record for helping people into positive destinations including jobs, further education and training and we will use all of that experience to ensure no one misses out.”
