Mobile testing site
There has been considerable use of the mobile testing centre at Port Glasgow over the last few days. The uptake for Covid-19 tests through 'test & protect' has increased across Scotland and has resulted in a lack of same day testing availability, with people being asked to divert to testing sites in other parts of the country.
The mobile testing unit will move from Port Glasgow Health Centre to Parklea from today (Tuesday 25 August 2020) and will operate full time from 10am to 5pm increasing local testing capacity.
The Scottish Ambulance Service will take operational management over from the Army from today as a planned handover of staffing of the unit as part of 'test & protect'.
People who are unable to travel to the mobile testing centre at Parklea will continue to be able to request a home testing kit as an alternative.
The decision to move the mobile testing unit to a new site at Parklea is to ensure that traffic congestion does not continue to impact on Port Glasgow Health Centre or the local community and to meet with the increasing demand in Covid-19 testing. The council will continue to monitor road use at the mobile testing unit to ensure minimum impact on the road network.
