Port Glasgow Library 'pop-up service' during temporary closure
BOOKWORMS in Port Glasgow are being advised that the town’s library is set to close for internal building works - but a new ‘pop-up’ service is being launched.
The Fore Street facility will shut on Christmas Eve for around 16 weeks.
A temporary ‘pop-up’ library service will operate from nearby 7½ John Wood Street from 11 January and will be open each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-2pm during the closure for collections, returns and for computer access.
People will also be able to use any of Inverclyde’s five other libraries during this time for PC access and the ‘Connect & Connect’ pick-up service and there’s the popular ‘Books on Wheels’ option to have books delivered.
The closure is to allow for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL), which is a tenant in the Port Glasgow Municipal Buildings, to expand their office space.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, convener of education and communities, said: “The temporary closure coincides with the Christmas and new year period when libraries are closed anyway for the holidays and when customer numbers tend to be very low.
“I hope that helps minimise any disruption and I’m pleased that an alternative solution has been found in a ‘pop-up’ library just around the corner in John Wood Street in addition to our fantastic online services.”
