All play areas to re-open by Thursday 9 July
Playtime is set to return for Inverclyde’s kids with all of the area’s remaining play areas due to re-open by close of business on Thursday 9 July. There are around 50 play areas in Inverclyde.

However, the play area at the Walled Garden in Gourock won’t re-open because it is in an enclosed space. The play area at Quarriers Street will also remain shut due to the nearby construction work and associated site traffic.
Last week play areas at: Ailsa Road, Battery Park (no 1, no 2 and the outdoor gym), Birkmyre Park (Kilmacolm), Boglestone, Coronation Park, Fox Street, Inverkip community centre, King Street, Leven Road, Sir Michael Street, Wellpark and Wemyss Bay community centre all re-opened.
Councillor Michael McCormick, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Environment & Regeneration Committee, said, “We are increasingly getting back to something that people recognise as a semblance of normality. The hard work that the whole community put in during the lockdown is now starting to pay off.
“But we haven’t wiped out the virus yet and there is still the chance of a second wave of infections if we let our guard down. People still need to take precautions to protect themselves and others from catching Covid 19.
“We will be putting up signs asking people to make sure that children use hand sanitiser before and after they play on the equipment. People should also still follow the 2m (6 feet) social distancing guidelines.”
