Changes to library services
LIBRARY services in Inverclyde have changed due to the tighter coronavirus restrictions.
The ‘Connect & Collect’ offering is being temporarily suspended with customers being urged to take advantage of ‘Books on Wheels’ deliveries instead to avoid people leaving their household to assist with the national stay at home rules.
While libraries remain closed due to the current lockdown, there also resources online, including e-books and audio books via the ‘Borrow Box’ scheme.
Materials can still be delivered to children, young people and families who need them.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and communities, said: “The ‘Connect & Collect’ service has been a huge hit since the start of the pandemic last year while our libraries were closed.
“It had been relaunched but in light of the new lockdown measures we must all do our bit to stay at home and limit the spread of the virus so it’s therefore necessary to halt this service temporarily to support that effort.
“Deliveries of books will still continue to help keep people occupied during this latest lockdown. There are also resources on the libraries website, social media channels and staff from local branches are on hand to offer support and advice over the phone.
“We all hope to see things back to normal soon.”
The current situation will be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis with services reinstated as soon as it is safe to do so.
