Summer Reading Challenge 2025
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, in partnership with the Reading Agency, launches in Scotland on Saturday 21 June 2025 with the theme of 'Story Garden'.
All children aged 4-11 are encouraged to sign up for the challenge at their local library and read six books over the summer holidays, earning stickers as they go.

When children have completed the challenge they will receive a medal and certificate, and this year we are very excited to be able to offer the prize of a performance from Booster Cushion Theatre to the school in Inverclyde that has the highest completion rate.
All children who compete the challenge will also be invited to our annual Summer Reading Challenge celebration event in Greenock Town Hall in September.
A launch event will be held in the community garden at Greenock South West Library on Saturday 21 June from 10.30-11.30am, with outdoor storytelling, crafts and a character scavenger hunt, as well as an opportunity for children to sign up to the challenge and borrow their first books.
The challenge runs until Saturday 23 August, and children can sign up at any time throughout the summer.
A 'mini challenge' will run in conjunction with the Summer Reading Challenge for children aged under four.
Visit the Inverclyde Libraries website and social media channels via the links in the Other Websites section of this page to see the full programme of free children’s activities happening across all libraries this summer.
