Reminder to businesses on single use vaping ban

INVERCLYDE Council is encouraging local businesses to review their stock and prepare for imminent changes to the sale and supply of single use vapes.

From 1 June 2025, the sale and supply of single use vapes will be banned across the whole of the UK.

The ban applies to both in-store and online sales and covers all products classified as single-use vapes.

Councillor Michael McCormick, convener of the environment and regeneration committee, said: “We are committed to supporting local businesses adhere to the new regulations.

"From 1 June 2025, it will be an offence to sell disposable vaping products, and our teams have been out and about, speaking to retailers and providing advice about what they need to do.

“This ban is also an important step to help our environment.

"Single use vapes are difficult to recycle and more often than not end up in landfills, where their batteries can leak harmful waste into the ground.

"Our street cleaning teams are also only too aware of the litter issues they can also cause when thrown away carelessly on our streets.”

Inverclyde Council's Trading Standards team will enforce the ban and continue to contact local retailers with guidance including the consequences for not adhering to the ban.

These can include a fixed penalty notice of at least £200, seizure of non-compliant products or criminal prosecution with fines of up to £5,000.
