Dangerous Buildings

There is a general duty on owners to maintain their buildings in such a way as will ensure that there is no danger to people in or around the building. Extreme weather, including storm force winds and flooding can often target weaknesses in buildings.

The Council has various powers to either instruct or take immediate action where danger is immediate, including removal from the building, or require owners to undertake essential securing, repair or demolition works when a building is in a dangerous condition. In all circumstances the owner is responsible for the cost of works.
