Council customer service centre

The opening hours are Monday to Thursday 8.45am - 4.30pm and Friday 8.45am - 3.30pm.

Please note there are no walk-in payment facilities available within the customer service centre. Please read the service details further below to find out how you can make payments during this time.

Keeping everyone safe

We are working hard to welcome you back to our customer service area. To help us keep everyone safe, please follow these simple steps:

  • Booking an appointment is encouraged in advance of your visit but you may still attend without an appointment during opening hours and you will be allocated a time slot.
  • Please arrive at your appointment time. We do not have a customer waiting area in operation at this time.
  • If you are displaying coronavirus symptoms, then please call ahead to cancel your appointment.
  • Please follow the social distancing guidance and floor markings in the customer service area.
  • We have installed sanitizer dispensers for your use before and after your visit and safety screens to make your visit as safe as possible.
  • Our staff are here to help you, please respect them at all times.

The following services are unaffected:

  • Collection of crisis grants (collection is by appointment only please do not attend before your appointment time).
  • Business visitors preferrably by appointment only. Please call the relevant service or customer services on 01475 717171 
  • All telephony enquiries.

Payments

Ways you can pay:

• Using the ‘Pay it Online’ section of our website www.inverclyde.gov.uk/pay-it-online

• Automated telephone payment line 0845 309 6062

• At a Post Office or PayPoint

• Telephone 01475 712590 during office hours.

• By cheque to Inverclyde Council, PO Box 9467, Greenock PA15 1JD (please put your reference or invoice number on the reverse).

Council tax

• Booking by appointment is encouraged but you are still able to attend without an appointment and you will be offered a time slot.  Please call 01475 712961 to discuss.

• Telephone enquiries: contact 01475 712961 during office hours to speak with an advisor.

• Email your enquiry to council.tax@inverclyde.gov.uk and we will get back to you.

• General information on council tax and forms is available at www.Inverclyde.gov.uk/counciltax

• You can register and manage your council tax online www.inverclyde.gov.uk/counciltaxonline

• Completed forms and supporting evidence can be posted to Inverclyde Council, PO Box 9467, Greenock PA15 1JD or emailed to council.tax@inverclyde.gov.uk  

During business hours forms and evidence can be placed in the council mailbox situated in the carriageway behind the customer service centre. Please enter from Clyde Square and follow the signage. Documents must be contained within an envelope and marked clearly for council tax.

Housing benefit and council tax reduction

• Booking by appointment is encouraged but you are still able to attend without an appointment and you will be offered a time slot.  Please call 0800 013 1375 to discuss.

• Telephone enquiries: contact 0800 013 1375 during office hours to speak with an advisor.

• Email your enquiry to benefits.enquiries@inverclyde.gov.uk and we will get back to you.

• General information on housing benefit, council tax reduction and forms is available at www.Inverclyde.gov.uk/advice-and-benefits

• Completed forms and supporting evidence can be posted to Inverclyde Council, Customer Services, Municipal Buildings, Clyde Square, Greenock PA15 1LY or emailed to benefits.enquiries@inverclyde.gov.uk

Registration of births, deaths and marriages

We have made these changes to our registration service:

  • Death registrations are being conducted by telephone appointment only. Contact us on 01475 714250 or email registrars@inverclyde.gov.uk  
  • For birth registrations contact us on 01475 714250 or email registrars@inverclyde.gov.uk  
  • Indoor civil ceremonies are available. Contact us on 01475 714250 or email registrars@inverclyde.gov.uk

    The registration service offer a five day week service.

    Monday to Thursday - 9am - 4.30pm (lunch closure noon - 1pm)
