The survey also lists the Scottish local authority as the 61st best employer in the country in the poll which is topped by luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover.
Inverclyde Council’s Chief Executive, John Mundell, said; “The survey is carried out independently and involves surveys sent out to employees across the UK. It is heartening that Council employees who have responded to this survey have expressed a very positive view of Inverclyde Council as a place to work. Being 61st out of all employers in the UK which includes some of biggest brand names in the world is achievement enough. To come first in a poll of our peers in other councils and public sector organisations is the icing on the cake.
“In Inverclyde we do many things very well other than accepting praise. Our employees deserve a great deal of praise for the hard work they do each and every day. I am delighted that it has been recognised in this survey.”
Inverclyde Council Leader, Councillor Stephen McCabe, said: “The past few years have been tough on local government workers across the country. It is very welcome news that despite the pressures employees in Inverclyde are responding positively when asked independently of their views of whether they would recommend Inverclyde."
According to the announcement by Bloomberg from the survey, the top three companies in the list – Jaguar Land Rover, AstraZeneca and Harrods – are all headquartered in the U.K.
The survey, which lists the top 400 employers in the U.K., was conducted between Oct. 6 and Oct. 26, 2015, through a series of online panels. A sample of 15,000 U.K. employees was used to achieve a representative snapshot of life at a British business, and only companies with at least 500 employees are included on the list. Respondents answered 35 questions about their employer, and were asked to positively or negatively identify companies in the 23 sectors of industry grouped in the survey other than their own.
Respondents came from 24 industries as varied as automotive, media, oil and gas, construction, retail, and food and drink, with companies in each sector ranked against each other.
Charlotte Edney, analyst at Statista, who compiled the survey on behalf of Bloomberg and co-author of the report, said: "Reputation and the atmosphere within a company is very important for employee satisfaction. Colleagues working together, doing interesting work, being given the opportunity for training, all plays a part in that atmosphere and development driver.”
