Task Force update
The latest meeting of the Texas Instruments task force met this week.
And, members heard feedback on the meeting Task Force chair, Councillor Stephen McCabe of Inverclyde Council and Business minister, Fergus Ewing MSP, held last month with Texas Instruments management.
It was confirmed that the factory is being marketing as a going concern which is expected to begin this month.
The task group members also heard that PACE arrangements have begun for members of the design team with workshops and one-to-one sessions available for employees.
In addition, the task force were given reassurances that all of the modern apprentices at Texas Instruments will, no matter the stage, be able to complete their apprenticeship in full.
Councillor McCabe, leader of Inverclyde Council. Said: “The task force meeting is an opportunity to bring the right agencies and individuals together to co-ordinate our efforts in seeking a long term future and support structure for employees. The PACE arrangements are already in place and well-rehearsed to provide support to employees. It is reassuring that the 13 modern apprentices in the factory will get the opportunity to complete their apprenticeship which will assist them as individuals but also offer skilled and experienced workers into the marketplace. We were further reassured at the meeting that Texas Instruments themselves will also offer assistance to the MAs in seeking alternative employment at any time should they choose to do so.”
It was also reported to the group that the UK government had offered their support to the objectives of the task group.
