Kempock Street West (nearest the pool) car park will become a short-stay three-hour car park with a reduced number of spaces (from 83 to 45). Kempock Street East (nearer the train station) will become the long-stay car-park with an increased number of spaces (from 85 to 123).

On-street parking in Lower Kempock Street will be increased to three hours.

Environment & Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: “We carried out a detailed survey and public consultation earlier this year and listened to the views of local people about the existing arrangements. It is extremely difficult to please everybody but we were determined to come up with a scheme that delivers the right balance. I am confident these changes will meet the demand for longer-stay parking while ensuring there is still a sufficient turnover of spaces for people using the town centre for short periods.”

Gourock Town Centre has recently undergone a £5 million redevelopment including a new one-way system and the iconic Gourock open air swimming pool is a popular seasonal attraction.

Councillor McCormick added: “The regeneration of the town centre required a fundamental re-think of parking arrangements and it is quite right that we have taken the views and feedback of people on board. Local councillors and the Community Council have also played a major part in these changes and we are confident they will contribute towards the economic growth of Gourock and promoting the town as a place to visit and to enjoy.”
