Bid to Renew Fairtrade Status
Inverclyde Council is hoping to renew its Fairtrade Zone status for a further two years.
In 2014 Inverclyde achieved the distinction at the first time of applying following a ‘strong and comprehensive’ application.
Inverclyde Council has now approved proposals to apply to renew its Fairtrade Zone status and to continue to support the Fairtrade goals.
Provost Martin Brennan said: “It is astounding how well our schools and community came together to show such tremendous support for the principles behind Fairtrade. This is a great example of how the whole of Inverclyde can come together to help communities in developing countries to earn enough for today and to invest in a better tomorrow.”
The Fairtrade scheme guarantees a better deal for third world producers by ensuring they get fair wages, good working conditions and help with the development of products and marketing. It also gives consumers the choice to make a difference by buying Fairtrade products whenever they can.
