UK Competition Singing Success for Inverclyde Pupil
Victory at an Inverclyde Council school’s music competition has led to national success for one talented pupil.
Karen McLeod has recently been named runner-up in the National Young Musician Competition finals in Cardiff.
In September 2016 the 16 year old won the Clydeview Academy Young Musician’s Competition and was then selected to represent the school in the local Rotary Club of Gourock Young Musician’s Competition, which she won.
She later took first place at the Scotland and North of England Regional Final before her success in Wales.
The competition is open to all schools and college communities including those pupils that are home educated and any other young people’s community organisations, for example, community RotaKids, community Interact, Scout Groups, Girl Guides.
It is also open to all levels, grades and styles for young instrumentalists and vocalists. All participants must be in full time education up to the age of 17.
Karen is a pupil of Inverclyde Music Services and is currently studying towards her Grade 8 ABRSM singing examination as well as preparing for her role of Amber Von Tussle in the school's performances of Hairspray next month.
She said: "I really enjoyed the experience as a whole, advancing at each stage was unexpected and very exciting. I was very lucky to have so much support from my singing teacher Polly Beck, the Rotary Club of Gourock and parents. It's an experience I will never forget and I'm delighted to have taken part in such a prestigious competition."
