Couples looking to tie the knot in Inverclyde can now walk down the aisle in style thanks to a £26,000 make-over at Inverclyde Council’s Marriage Suite.

Port Glasgow Marriage Suite

The Marriage Suite, located on the extensively upgraded first floor of the Port Glasgow Town Hall, features opulent, chandelier-style lights, a new ceiling, polished wood floors and new curtains.

The room’s original electric fire has been replaced with a white marble fireplace. This is complemented by modern furnishings and floral arrangements which tastefully coordinate with the room’s original features.

A key aspect of the room is the wood panelling, gifted to the council by the Cunard Line when the QE2 was fitted-out in Inverclyde in 1968.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Environment & Regeneration Committee, said, “Your wedding should be one of the most memorable days of your life, for all the right reasons. We wanted to make sure that the Marriage Suite provides local couples with exactly the right kind of backdrop and ambience for their special day.

“The new-look Marriage Suite is bright and welcoming. Some registry office weddings can seem impersonal but this room has a warm, intimate feeling while still being able to take 50 guests. The Marriage Suite is on the same floor as the town hall function rooms, which means the wedding and reception can take place in the same building. The function hall can accommodate 250 guests.

“It’s an ideal venue.”

Marriage ceremonies are conducted by an authorised Registrar or Assistant Registrar and are tailor made to the couple’s personal requirements. Ceremonies are available Monday to Sunday including public holidays.

Civil marriages can take place at any venue or location within Inverclyde with the agreement of the Registrar.  This may be a hotel, a social club, a home or somewhere more unusual such as a beach or even aboard a yacht.  The team will ensure that couples are involved in every detail of the planning to make sure it is personal and memorable.

The Registration Service offers a range of options and will do everything possible to make the ceremony memorable and special.  Couples may choose to enhance their wedding by including aspects such as hand-fasting, a sand or an oathing stone ceremony. They may also wish to include children or other family members in the service.
