HEEPS of help for local homes and businesses to cut fuel bills and improve energy efficiency

Home owners and local businesses can get a free energy survey and heating health check aimed at reducing their fuel bills and improving energy efficiency, thanks to a new partnership between the Wise Group and Inverclyde Council.

The Wise About Energy project offers expert advice and support that is specifically tailored to the individual needs and circumstances of home owners and businesses.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Environment & Regeneration Committee, said, “The Wise About Energy project is all about helping local people and local businesses save money and help the environment by being more energy efficient.

“All that people need to do to book a free appointment with a specialist energy assessor is call or email the Wise Group. The energy assessor can help with a wide range of things such as:

  • Providing a free Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for homes (these are needed when a house is sold or rented out)
  • Giving tailored household energy advice
  • Telling you about grants and funding options
  • Helping you to find the best deal on your energy bills
  • Helping you to find the right contractor for the job
  • Making sure you save as much money as possible from any improvements.”

The Wise About Energy project is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by the Wise Group for Inverclyde Council. The Wise Group is a social enterprise which helps build better lives, better communities and stronger businesses.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) gives information on how energy efficient a building is and how it can be improved. You need an EPC when:

  • Applying for a completion certificate for a new building
  • Selling a building
  • Renting a building to a new tenant

An EPC can also be used to support an application for an interest-free loan with cashback through Home Energy Scotland.

The EPC shows:

  • The building's 'energy efficiency rating', which can give you an idea of how much fuel bills are likely to be
  • The building's 'environmental impact rating', which shows how much the building affects the environment with CO2 emissions
  • Recommendations for improving a property’s energy efficiency.

EPCs are normally done as part of a Home Report.
