Voluntary organisations get grants worth £200,000
Bowling clubs, pipe bands and volunteers are among the community groups to benefit from one-off grants.
A total of £196,465 is to be paid out from the Grants to Voluntary Organisations Fund.
Councillor Graeme Brooks, Chair of the council’s Grants Sub Committee said, “Over 90 different clubs, voluntary groups and charities applied for cash from the council. We carefully considered each one as we understand how vital this money can be to these organisations.
“I am delighted that we have been able to make these awards. These groups and organisations play an important role in our community and I am very pleased that the council has been able to support their work.”
Projects which received funding included: the Greenock Burns Club’s request for £5,000 towards a feasibility study into commissioning a Burn’s related artwork. The funding will allow a sculptor to create an accurate scale model in plaster and in terracotta of the artwork. The Ardgowan Hospice received £6,000 to set up a Compassionate Inverclyde Awards Scheme and the Inverclyde Autistic Support Group which got £1,540 to help close the gap in childcare services available to families affected by Autism.
Councillor Brooks added, "This funding is a lifeline for so many groups who carry out so much good work in our communities. We are fortunate to be in a position to be able to award these grants and I know every single penny will be used to benefit a great many people.”
