Kempock Street, Gourock, in the running for Great British High Street award
Judges from the Great British High Street descend on Kempock Street in Gourock at 12.50pm on Tuesday 17 September 2019 to see if it makes the grade as a Rising Star.
Kempock Street is one of seven Scottish High Streets that have been shortlisted for the organisation’s Rising Star Award. The award recognises, ‘up and coming local communities which are on their way to transforming for the future’.
The other streets that are in the running for the award are: Aberfoyle Main Street – Aberfoyle, High Street – Falkirk, High Street – Lanark, High Street – Cowdenbeath,, High Street – Castle Douglas and The Square – Kelso.
A total of 28 high streets across the UK are competing for the national award.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Deputy Leader of the Council, said, “The High Street has traditionally been the heart of the local community. It is very exciting that Kempock Street has been shortlisted and I would urge everyone who is available to show their support tomorrow and by voting online.
“Gourock has recently benefited from a £5.2million investment programme and also sits on a stunning location of the Clyde. I’m confident that Kempock Street is a strong contender for the Rising Star Award."

The Great British High Street Awards are run by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) in partnership with Visa. The awards recognise and celebrate the communities that are working to revive local high streets.
Online voting for the Rising Star Awards is now open at https://thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/high-street-of-the-year-awards/rising-star-award-finalists. The ballot closes on 7 October 2019.
The aim of the Great British High Street Awards is to encourage merchants and communities to get behind their local high streets by building local business-led partnerships between the public and private sectors.
