Childcare for key workers - how to apply
A basic education service is being provided in Inverclyde for the children of key workers even though all schools and nurseries are due to close today (Friday 20 March).
The move means that the workers, whose efforts are vital to keep the country going during the corvid 19 outbreak, will be able to do their jobs without worrying about childcare.
Inverclyde Council has created a short online survey for key workers to help plan what resources are needed. The survey can be accessed by following the link on the left hand side of this page.
Key workers include:
- Health and Care workers directly supporting COVID response and associated staff Health and Care workers supporting life threatening emergency work as well as critical primary and community care provision
- Energy Suppliers
- Staff providing childcare/learning form the above groups
- All other Health and Care workers and wider public sector workers providing emergency/critical welfare services (e.g. Fire, Police, Prisons, Social workers etc.)
- All workers without whom there could be a significant impact on Scotland.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Education & Communities Committee, said, “We need to work together to make sure that the services we rely on day-to-day, and during this outbreak, continue to be available where and when we need them.
“While schools and nurseries across Inverclyde will close after today (Friday 20 March 2020), the council will provide basic education facilities to ensure key workers, including those employed in the emergency services, care sector and other critical service areas can continue to go to work.
“We need their support and they need ours. Anyone who thinks they fall into the category of key worker should fill in the online survey as soon as possible.”
The child care will not be up and running immediately but parents/carers will be contacted as soon as possible if the council is able to offer provision for their child.
