International Women’s Day 2021
INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day is being marked online due to the stay at home restrictions.
Inverclyde Council is commemorating the occasion today (Monday 8 March) through its social media channels since national rules mean no events can physically take place due to the pandemic.
Aa part of that, a special slideshow has been created around this year’s theme of ‘choose to challenge’, which aims to tackle and bring about change around things like gender equality, stereotypes, positive visibility of women, and celebrating women’s achievements.

Councillor Lynne Quinn, Inverclyde’s women’s champion, said: “Last year we celebrated International Women’s Day with a fantastic free event for all at the Beacon Arts Centre featuring guest speakers, live music, a drama production and showcasing women in business, health and wellbeing and sports and fitness.
“Sadly, a lot has changed in the last 12 months and a physical event is simply not possible and understandably so in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
“However, I’m pleased the council is continuing to mark International Women’s Day to ensure the important messages of the event are not lost.
“I look forward to seeing the social media activity and I hope we can pick up where we left off last year with a proper celebration in 2022.”
