Community groups share over £¼m
NEARLY 70 community groups have been given a financial boost worth more than £260,000 from Inverclyde Council.
Money has been made available from the local authority’s new Community Grants Fund, which combines the former Grants to Voluntary Organisations (GTVO), Under-19s Sports and Community Hall Waivers funding pots.
Just under £263k will be shared among a total of 68 groups to support a wide range of sporting, musical, cultural, religious and voluntary activities across Inverclyde.
Funding was approved by councillors on the council’s grants sub-committee.
Bowling clubs, youth sports teams, dance schools, arts groups, community centres and scouts and girl guides are among those benefiting.
Organisations will use the money towards a variety of things like running costs, maintenance work, building upgrades and investment in new equipment.
Councillor Graeme Brooks, chair of the Inverclyde Council grants sub-committee, said: “We have such an array of incredible community groups across Inverclyde playing an important role in promoting and providing access to sports, the arts, transport and support services.
“While we have a finite pot of money in which to share around, I’m delighted that we’ve been able to help so many, varied organisations.
“I hope the support from the Community Grants Fund will assist these groups, and the small army of staff and volunteers who run them, to continue providing opportunities and delivering important services to people the length and breadth of Inverclyde.”
Other organisations such as the Inverclyde Voluntary Council of Social Services (ICVSS) and Port Glasgow Trans-Port groups, which provide mini-buses to help individuals get about, have also received funding.
Charities and support groups such as Inverclyde Family Contact Centre, Moving On, Victim Support, Turning Point, Parklea Branching Out and Inverclyde to Lourdes were also successful in applying for funding.
