Over £500k for scouts base
MORE than £500,000 has been secured to develop a Greenock scouts base.
Inverclyde Council, in partnership with 32nd Greenock and District Group, has been awarded £515k from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund to renovate the Bank Street Community Hub.
The property was formerly a residential care building but was taken over by the scouts through a community asset transfer agreement in 2020 which saw the site of their former Mearns Street headquarters transferred to the local authority.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and convener, said: “This is great news that the scouts, with the council’s support, have managed to secure a substantial amount of money from the government to make this former residential care home fit for purpose as a modern scout hall and community hub.
“The scout movement does terrific work supporting children and young people teaching them valuable life skills, discipline and instilling many of the values we hold dear, such as integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation.
“The scouts also provide volunteering and development opportunities for adults and generally make a positive contribution to the community.
“This grant will allow the scouts to further enhance their Bank Street base and allow the 32nd Greenock and District Group to continue to flourish.”
Council officers are now working closely with the scouts and the Bank Street Committee to develop plans and timelines for improvement works.
Updates on the progress of the project will be provided to future committee meetings.
