Gourock Library reopens

School children enjoyed a fun afternoon to celebrate the reopening of Gourock Library.

The much-loved library had been forced to close its doors after a leak in the ceiling caused damage to the walls and carpet.

Book lovers had to travel elsewhere while work was carried out during August to dry out the leak and replace the carpet and some book stock.

The library reopened on Monday 1 September 2025 and to celebrate, P3/4 pupils from Gourock, St Ninian’s and Moorfoot primary schools enjoyed a special live performance from Booster Cushion Theatre.

Convener of education and communities, Councillor Jim Clocherty, said:

“We know libraries are so important to our communities and offer much more than books.

“Unfortunately we had to close Gourock Library for a few weeks to carry out repairs due to this unforeseen leak in the roof above the library.

“We’d like to thank all library users for their patience while the work was carried out and I’m sure staff are looking forward to welcoming them all back.”

Gourock Library on Kempock Place will continue to offer a programme of activities for all ages and interests including Bookbug, Library Club, Lego Club, school visits and a new Open Book session for adults.

There will be no overdue fines payable on the items borrowed before the library closed.
