Amey Highways are responsible for putting up any signage explaining what is happening and where.
Who is responsble for delivering the changes to the road
Balfour Beatty was awarded the contract to deliver the infrastructure changes and is coordinating the upgrades in conjunction with the council's roads team.
What will happen and when
The contract to deliver the project started on 23 January 2025 and work onsite started on 10 March 2025.
Work is expected to last for around 10 months.
There are four key phases:
- Brueacre junction west: (March - October)
- Harbourside/Main Street junctions west: (March - November)
- Brueacre junction east: (October - November)
- Harbourside/Main Street junctions east: (July - November)
The project involves the creation of a new junction between the Brueacre junction and the houses at the bottom of the hill and will require a lane closure with traffic lights.
The other junctions at Harbourside and Main Street Inverkip, involve the creation of two new signalised junctions. These works will be completed under lane narrowing for the majority of the work, and also via lane closures under traffic lights.
To improve traffic flow the temporary lights will be managed during the peak hours, however there will be some delay to the network. As such, the length of time there is a lane closure in place will be limited as much as possible.
